Traditional Pigs

Our Pigs

We keep Gloucester Old Spots, Saddleback, Welsh and Pietrain pigs. We don't have large numbers of pigs as we are not a commercial farm. We have 15 breeding sows and two stock boars, producing a few litters throughout the year and raising them in the traditional way. Our main priority is to ensure all our pigs get the best possible quality of life and helping to promote the survival of Traditional Breeds within the countryside. Pigs are intelligent, friendly and are nice animals to work with. If you are thinking about starting to keep traditional pigs please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have, we will do our best to help.

To produce our very high quality, succulent Traditional Pork we put our Pedigree Old Spot Sows to a Welsh Boar. Crossing these rare breed pigs with one another enables us to produce the highest grade traditional pig, finishing with just the right amount of fat to produce delicious traditional Pork Crackling and the best tasting Bacon and Sausages. Our pigs eat a lot of grass as we keep them on fresh pasture for most of the year, they also get spoiled with seasonal treats including Apples from our trees, Swedes, Turnips and Carrots, this also helps improve the taste of our rare breeds Pork.

Here are a few pictures of some of our Old Spot Breeding Sows:

Emily - Pedigree Old Spot Sow

Cavalry Star 2

Emily is a really nice pig with a great temperament. She always makes an excellent mother and is not over protective, enabling us to handle the piglets and clean them out without her bothering.

Emily produces good sized litters and her piglets are always wick, full of life from day one.

Pedigree Old Spots

Emily had just finished feeding when I took this picture. As you can see she has a long straight back with excellent confirmation.

A fine example of an Old Spot Sow.

Amy - Pedigree Old Spot Sow

Cavalry Princess Mary 2

Amy is a very big sow, she loves to be outdoors, often seen taking a rest and cooling off under our Oak trees in the paddock.

Amy is mated to Pedigree Registered Old Spot Sires as part of our ongoing commitment to preserving Traditional Breed pigs.

Pasha - Pedigree Old Spot Sow

Wydale Princess Ann 15

Pasha is a fine young Old Spot Sow born January 07. Here she is pictured with her first litter of 10 Old Spot x Welsh piglets.

All her piglets were even sized and very lively from birth. We believe she will make an excellent pig, increasing litter size as she gets older.

Jade - Pedigree Old Spot Sow

Ruddings Princess Ann 2nd

Probably the most laid back pig on our farm. she loves having her back scratched and always comes running to greet us when we enter our paddocks.

She had her first litter last year and they all did remarkably well. She is now in pig to a Rufus boar due to farrow early May 08
